Live music, silent disco, workshops and more!
With just three weeks to go until kick off, Titirangi Festival of Music reveals its full programme of events, with the addition of two more concerts, and a collection of free events to match every taste. It's all about bringing the community together to get amongst the fun!
The concert programme begins with the brilliant Cha Wa from New Orleans on Thursday, with Sola Rosa headlining Friday, and Bic Runga on Saturday, with these headline shows all at the Festival Ballroom, Titirangi War Memorial Hall. The Confluence Of Ways in association with Creative Jazz Club play Titirangi Theatre on Saturday night and NZTrio: The Americas comes to Te Uru on Sunday afternoon. Music lovers are recommended to book tickets to these concerts quickly!
As always, the headline concert events are supported by a huge programme of free events designed to bring the community together—there's a silent disco, a panel discussion on urban sanctuaries, an art trail, a kids' parade and live performances across the musical spectrum.

Marquee Stage
It starts with a bang at Friday night's Local Explosion in the giant stretch tent at Festival Hub on Friday 29 March, from 5:30pm - 8pm. You'll shake off the working-week to West Auckland pop genius SJD as he performs a special dusk dance-set, supported by 2018 Battle Of The Bands winners Blu Fish. Also on the bill and helping to create a local, colourful atmosphere are festival favourites African percussion ensemble Mhara Marimba, and with us for the first time the 16-strong Titirangi Community Choir lead by conductor Brigid Ursula Bisley. The silent disco runs from 5:30pm-8pm.
On Saturday at the Family Fiesta, again in the giant stretch tent at Festival Hub 12nn - 4:30pm, feel free to laugh out loud with magician extraordinaire, Le Cirque De JP, as he hosts an afternoon of family-friendly music and fun activities, featuring ukulele trio, The Nukes, with a combined orchestra from local schools, Lee Majors (from 95bFM's Kids Show) 'Kids' Disco', Kimata's African Tribal Drumming (with lots of opportunity to join in), and the brilliant marching band Superhero Second Line. The afternoon finishes with prizes and a superhero-led parade where children can show off their creations from the Te Uru Art Trail.
Te Uru Art Trail 12-4pm Saturday at Festival Hub
Te Uru again presents the Art trail, this year inspired by global street carnivals. Morph into a spectacular exotic bird, by making a funky percussion instrument to wear around your neck with chiming bells, sequins and feathers. Then create a vibrant bird mask with dazzling plumage and then finish off with face painting to transform into a musical work of art. You can then join the parade with Superhero Second line from 4pm.
There will be prizes on the day and lots for the kids to do.
'Up iIn the Village' - 12nn - 6pm Saturday
'Up In the Village', the Skools Out stage 12nn -3pm invites you to make some noise with high schoolers from Green Bay, Avondale College and Rudolf Steiner School (and recent graduates, SmokeFree RockQuest finalists Bad Dog) as they strut their stuff outside Glovers in the village, while the 'Cockspurs Stage' 3pm - 6pm invites you to join rocker Labretta Suede as she hosts DJs and performs live.
'Gitbox Rebellion' - 1pm Saturday, Te Uru
Don't forget to stop in on 'Gitbox Rebellion' and get your gat fix with the acclaimed guitar group inspired by King Crimson's Robert Fripp. Set in the 2nd floor photo exhibition by Gavin Hipkins.
'Urban Sanctuaries Panel Discussion' - 1pm Saturday, Titirangi Library
There is a groundswell and growing commitment amongst neighbours in our Titirangi surrounds to reverse ecological decline and restore the biodiversity in our local neighbourhoods.
'Friday Night Flicks'
On Friday, there'll be a very special music cinema screening in association with Flicks@Lopdell, details TBA.
