Jahboy

Jahboy 23 years old, is one of Solomon Islands’ most celebrated artists who is making big waves in the Solomon Islands & beyond. With mixed Melanesian and Polynesian blood and culture, he brings a new flavour to the South Pacific with his evolving international fusion reggae blended with elements of Island, Dancehall, Pop, Ragga, Roots and flirts of Hip-Hop, R&B and other genres. Each song he creates adds a new twist to his calibre of talent, which keeps pleasing his growing fan base.

Signed in 2011 to the Solomon’s innovative record label, Rebelle Inc, in less than a year he won the two most coveted prizes in the Solomon music industry at 19 years of age: SIBC/Wantok FM's Solo Artist of the Year Award and People's Choice Award. Again he took out the same award for Solo Artist of the year in 2012. The music awards have since stopped running in the Solomon Islands.

His debut 20 original song album called "Luv n Life", which was mastered by Universal Studios, USA, who said "Phenomenal job. Great sound. Great music!", achieved great success in the Solomons and the Pacific in 2012. The album’s 20 songs was a statement to match his 20 years of age and focuses on songs of love and aspects of island life such as, family, loss, youth, government corruption, ganja and hope.

“Hope for Tomorrow” is the title for his EP album he released in 2011, which is only available in the Solomon Islands. His third album is set to be released in 2016 and is called the Red Album.

The Red Album is the first of a trilogy of releases with the Yellow and Green Projects to ensue with songs associated with the metaphorical significances of these colours. The Red Album aims to take the audience on a musical journey in sound, lyrics and the emotional impressions of energy, passion, loss, pain, frustrations, rejection, sexual fantasies and love, all emotions ignited by the colour red.

His first taste of international touring began in 2011 to Vanuatu to perform with their most successful export, Naio and to Australia, which is unheard of in the Solomon music scene for an up and coming artist to do so much so soon. Whilst in Australia he performed at the Cairns Reggaetown Music Festival, as well as later opening for the PNG Superstar, Oshen in Brisbane. From these early days, his popularity has grown to be able to headline his own shows in many Australian cities and other Pacific countries. In 2016 he commenced his own 7 country tour (Australia, PNG, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Tahiti, Fiji and Cook Islands), with a 10 city tour of Australia.

Although his true love is reggae, he loves experimenting with different genres, resulting in more collaborations with award winning local and international artists. A prolific song writer, Jahboy has written and recorded over 60 original songs by himself or that he has he featured in.

In 2012 after completing his own debut album, he worked on another album “What’s the Scenario” with Fortafy & ATP, two prominent figures in the Australian and New Zealand underground Hip-Hop music scene. Other famous artists included in this collaboration include the legendary NZ rapper, Scribe and the ARIA award winner 360. To date, he has featured in several other albums like, “King Solomon” by Dialekt (who sung in a video clip "Im in LA" with Cyprus Hill), “Melanesia” by the artists Jagarizzar, J Lee & Yung Yanny from the Vanuatu/Oz label Tuff Tumas and “Le Compil Choc” from the New Caledonian label Mangrove Studios.

Jahboy loves performing as much as recording. He brings the crowd together with his sweet delivery, enthusiasm and interaction. He has had the privilege to open for several big names in the reggae and music industry such as Craig David, Julian Marley, Fiji Veikoso and Spawnbreezie.

Like the title of his debut album, for someone so young doing so much with the fruits of his hard work and passion, the future is looking bright and he is simply, loving his life. From obscure Solomon Islands, his music is just being discovered internationally. - Official Facebook Page
