Top Girls is a three act play by the phenomenal playwright, Caryl Churchill. First staged in London in 1982, the play centers around Marlene, who has just been promoted to Managing Director of the Top Girls Employment Agency.
The famous opening scene takes place at a celebratory dinner for Marlene’s promotion. However, unlike any ordinary dinner, the guests are women from history - some real, some legendary. Following acts switch locations between Top Girls Employment Agency and Marlene’s sister Joyce’s home.
This dramatic, sometimes surreal and darkly funny work explores women’s lives under the patriarchy, and the sacrifices we make on the path to ‘the top’ of an individualist, capitalist structure.
With an all-female cast, supported by a female-led production crew, get along to this iconic play and reflect on what we value as 'successful'.
Note that there is no entry for children less than 11 years of age, and 11-12 year olds must be accompanied by an adult. Parental guidance recommened for 13+.
