Aotearoa can feel a long way from the global action, so it would be easy to assume a career in the space industry is out of reach, or that there’s no room in it for you. Well, park those misconceptions immediately and let a former astronaut tell you how it really is!
As part of Tūhura’s Out of this World Day, Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper will be relating incredible experiences that very few people have had. Hear about the 27 days she spent in space across two flights, her five spacewalks, and high-stakes repairs on the International Space Station.
Get some invaluable insights into the space sector and enjoy the rare opportunity to ask an accomplished astronaut – not to mention a retired US Navy Captain – your burning questions in the Q+A session that follows. Light refreshments will be available.
Tickets are limited, so book quickly to avoid missing out. In fact, why not make a day of it and explore our other events, which will include a science show featuring Heide, a screening of the film Woman in Motion at 3.30pm, and space-related interactives.
Woman in Motion (2021): Nichelle Nichols' daunting task is to launch a national blitz for NASA, recruiting 8,000 of the nation's best and brightest, including the trailblazing astronauts who became the first Black, Asian and Latino men and women to fly in space.
