Join us for a dynamic performance when the Museum comes alive with the sounds of tango and world music.
Get ready to be dazzled as Aotearoa's celebrated quintet Aotango take you on an eclectic journey through the evolution of tango in a show featuring some of Aotearoa's top talent: Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO) Concertmaster and violinist Andrew Beer, NZTrio pianist Somi Kim at our Fazioli grand piano, world champion accordionist Grayson Masefield, APO Principal Bassist Gordon Hill and renowned jazz guitarist Sam Swindells.
Presented in two acts, 'A Century of Tango' traces the origins and diverse expressions of this vibrant style. Through the course of the performance, hear how tango has evolved through African, European, South and Central American influences as they have entered through Rio de la Plata to the ports of Buenos Aires - with popular favourites "El Choclo", "Por una Cabeza" and "La Cumparsita" - and finally to the revolutionary nuevo tango style of Argentinian composer Ástor Piazzolla.
Come along for a lively evening of music in the stunning setting of Te Ao Mārama South Atrium, with Tuitui Museum Bistro & Café offering delicious food and beverage options throughout the evening.
