The idea for the first public library in Albany came from a meeting held on 19 July 1919, Peace Celebration Day.
The community was looking for a way to honour local men lost during the Great War. The little library was officially opened in December 1922. It celebrated it's centenary last year.
Join librarian tour guides Lana and Kathy on a free, family friendly walk to learn more about the history of the building and its site, and recent research to find photographs of the men listed on the memorial stone.
Meet in the entranceway of Albany Village Library, 30 Kell Drive, Albany at 10:30. We aim to be back at the library by 12 noon. The walk is all on the flat and wheelchair accessible. Book your place by email to: Kathy.Bebb@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz
