Takutai is trained in tikanga and wharekai, and ensures tikanga (cultural practices, protocols and procedures) are followed and adhered to in the running of Harakeke program. Takutai has been weaving since she was a child, learning from kuia and whanau. Takutai gained a Diploma in Raranga and has many years creating her own contemporary pieces and teaching weaving to others. Takutai also works in the restoration sector and as such Takutai considers herself a kaitiaki (guardian) of the land.
Two-day workshop, introduction/beginner level harakeke harvesting and weaving following tikanga, led by experienced weaving tutor Takutai Moana-Watts.
The programme will be suitable for adults and youth (age 10 upwards), max 10 students. The programme will be themed around Matariki, with learning and stories interwoven into the workshops.
