Science Saturdays is an interactive programme aimed at introducing scientific concepts through short, fun experiments. Visitors are treated to 10-20 minute sessions of 3 to 5 quick and fun experiments. Audience participation is encouraged throughout the show, so be ready to get involved and have a go!
The focus for July is gravity, exploring what gravity is, how it works and how it affects us all. Experiments will include:
Mass vs. Weight
- This experiment demonstrates the difference between mass and weight, and how gravity influences this.
Lenz’s Law
- Gravity is a significant, but weak force, this experiment will show how a tiny magnet can resist the Earth’s gravitational pull
Gravity defying water
- An old favourite with a twist, this experiment demonstrates how air pressure can overcome the force of gravity when a glass of water is flipped upside down without spilling!
Newton’s beads
- A string of beads is made to leap from one vessel to another using only the power of gravity. This experiment illustrates a transformation of gravitational potential to kinetic energy
Science Saturdays: Gravity will run every Saturday in July with sessions between 10am – 4pm.
Science Saturdays is included with General Admission tickets.
