If you like acoustic Americana, folk, swing, country, or bluegrass, The Skiffy Rivets have got it covered. The Skiffies' diverse songs are seamlessly melded together with vocal harmonies and classy playing that will leave you with the same feeling that you get when you head into wide open countryside after being stuck in the city.
The band was formed when Pete Parnham, Holly Carrington, and Sue Tearne realized they were onto something special when they sang together for a blackboard concert at the 2015 Waharau folk festival.
Pete – known for his role in the Remarkables and bass playing at Café One2One – brings vocals and guitars. Ex Wendy Lu’s members and Sweet Adeline’s refugees, Sue and Holly are long-time friends but might have grown up as twins the way they sing together. They bring tight, yet natural, harmonies to the band while also criss-crossing lead vocal duties with Pete.
As usual Mark Laurent will do an opening and closing set, & probably sit in with the Skiffy's for a few tunes. There's no door charge - a koha teapot will be on the counter near the cash register & your contributions for the musicians will be much appreciated, thanks.
