Mike Harding is a national treasure; a musical storyteller at ease with his instrument, his audience and his mission - to locate, learn and perform the folk and popular songs of New Zealand, past and present, from our colonial and folk roots to the Kiwi music of today.
Mike usually performs solo, just his voice & acoustic guitar - songs of home, presented with humour and affection, spontaneity and skill. This will be a show celebrating New Zealand, its people and their stories.
“Songs from the lighter side of Kiwi ‘culture’, the daggier end of our homegrown repertoire. Songs from small towns and back-country roads, from the radio and the rodeo, the city and the shed. Love-songs, pub-songs, pop-songs, dog-songs, Down-the Hall-on-Saturday-Night songs. Songs from the Kiwi songwriters who have helped us to laugh at and love ourselves and where we live.” - the Kiwimusicana Show
Mark Laurent will anchor the evening, & possibly jam a bit with Mike as well. Chris Priestley is our host & on-call harmony singer. Moth the cafe cat is in the house, & when he gets onstage things usually hot up. There's no door charge, just the koha teapot in its usual place on the counter. Your contributions for the musicians are appreciated.
